Director of WACGEOH

Welcome to the West Africa Center for Global Environmental and Occupational Health (WACGEOH). It is with great pride and purpose that I extend my warmest greetings to our partners, stakeholders, and the broader global health community.

At WACGEOH, our mission is clear: to advance research, education, and policy in environmental and occupational health across West and Central Africa, while fostering sustainable solutions to the region’s most pressing public health challenges. From air and water pollution to workplace safety and climate-related health impacts, we work at the critical intersection where human health meets the environment.

Our region is at a pivotal moment—facing rapid industrial growth, urbanization, and climate change. These shifts bring opportunities, but also significant risks to the health and wellbeing of our communities. That is why we are committed to building local research capacity, empowering the next generation of scientists, and fostering international collaborations that bring global innovation to local solutions.

Through multidisciplinary research, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, WACGEOH is not only identifying threats but also designing culturally relevant, evidence-based interventions. Together with our academic, governmental, and non-governmental partners, we aim to drive meaningful change for healthier workplaces, cleaner environments, and resilient communities.

As we look to the future, I invite you to join us in our journey. Whether you are a researcher, policy-maker, student, or advocate, your collaboration strengthens our impact. Together, we can build a safer, healthier, and more equitable West Africa.

Warm regards,

Prof. Julius N. Fobil
