Dr. Shirley Victoria Simpson is an affiliate of the West Africa Centre for Global Environmental and Occupational Health (WAC-GEOHealth) and a Research Scientist at the Bacteriology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana. Her current research focuses on Yaws and Haemophilus ducreyi, contributing to Ghana’s participation in the WHO 2020 Yaws Eradication Campaign, supported by the ANESVAD Foundation.
She is actively involved in building capacity in endemic districts through the training of laboratory technicians and community health workers, providing ongoing monitoring and supervision to ensure the maintenance of skills and performance, and employing molecular diagnostic tools to confirm clinically suspected cases of Yaws and H. ducreyi, while also monitoring for azithromycin resistance.
